Oregon State Legislator Douglas E. Heider was born in Salem, Oregon in 1929. Upon graduation from Willamette University in 1956 with a degree in political science, Heider took over management of Heiders Appliance store from 1956 to 1962. In 1958, Heider won a seat in the state legislature as a representative from Marion County, serving two terms from January 1959 to January 1963.
